Founders and Creative Directors
LIACconcepts has been five years in the making.
Since 2008 Sophie and Phil have been producing, directing and organising performances, which have raised over £40,000 for Myeloma UK. With the belief that live music and performance can generate a positive uplifting atmosphere, their shows entitled “Life Is a Cabaret” were so named to encapsulate the idea of living life to the full, and aimed to provide audiences with a feel-good factor.
During this time, Sophie also completed a degree course at Exeter University. It was here whereby Sophie saw first-hand the power the arts have in stimulating thought and engaging a wide range of participants, from school children to young offenders, those with disabilities to professionals, in a truly unique way and she became committed to using the arts to motivate, excite and stimulate thought in any way she could. Working as a dance and drama artist, she performs and leads workshops in varying settings such as schools, prisons, Pupil Referral Units and community settings, therefore providing her with the opportunity to do so.
Thus, in forming a theatre company, Sophie and Phil wanted this ethos to be the foundation of their company, whereby the arts activity they produce – whether this be in providing workshops or producing new theatre – will motivate, engage, inspire, excite and stimulate thought. Sophie has received business mentoring through Business in the Arts: North West, to consolidate the company, and readily uses her passion, along with her expertise in fields of dance, drama, arts management and theatre production to maximise the company’s potential.
Phil is an English and Theatre Studies graduate with an MA in Contemporary Literature and Film and has a keen interest in the contextual implications surrounding the construction of texts for performance. Thus, Phil is instrumental in both the creation and dramaturgy of their work.
Sophie and Phil have worked closely over the last few years with many talented performers and musicians to execute their work, and relish the opportunity to bring innovative and challenging ideas to life for a wide range of audiences.
